Representing businesses and building owners within the town centre, the Timaru CBD Group acts as an informal business sector within the district.
The first steps towards the establishment of the group began in 2017, when Venture Timaru was tasked by the Timaru District Council to facilitate the process, gathering together stakeholders and assisting in the development of a strategic plan for the area. It became an incorporated society in 2017 and four activing working groups were formed focussing on promoting and enhancing the CBD, attracting investment, CBD heritage and the Executive Group.
From this, a Business Improvement District (BID) was formed in 2023 which is run by the Timaru CBD Group.
The BID’s vision is to build a strong, connected business community and vibrant destination where people choose to work, live and play, driving economic growth and community wellbeing.
Venture Timaru continues to closely support the Timaru CBD Group and BID, as a vital hub of our district.
In 2024 The CBD Group launched The Exchange
